  • The University Park Neighborhood Association (UPNA) was founded in 2002 and is now the most active association in District 7.
  • St. Mary’s University President Charles L. Cotrell, Ph.D., laid out Vision 2012, a five-year strategic plan calling on the University to be more actively involved in community outreach, development and improvement, and to collaborate with our neighbors to revitalize and beautify the areas surrounding the University.
  • St. Mary’s established the Neighborhood Revitalization Project with the mission of collaborating with neighbors on commercial transformation, housing rehabilitation, and infrastructure and quality of life improvements. Its Task Force has more than 50 members from the University, city and community and is chaired by Ramiro Cavazos, President of the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SAHCC) and former Economic Development Director for the City of San Antonio.
  • The revitalization target area is bordered by Bandera Road to the north, Ruiz St. to the south, N. Zarzamora St. to the east, and Broadview Road to the west. The Revitalization Project is being conducted in phases:

    • Phase 1 — University Park neighborhood.
    • Phases 2A and 2B — portions of Jefferson/Woodlawn Lake, Loma Vista and Memorial Heights neighborhoods.
    • Phases 3A and 3B — portions of Third World, Loma Park and Prospect Hill neighborhoods.
